CHAPTER SEVEN

The rest of the afternoon was not as teary as when it started. Leo reminded Angela of good times, telling her about how he had found love.

“Her name’s Riley. She’s beautiful,” Leo said, grinning like a young boy.

Angela removed the ice cream spoon from her mouth. “Yeah, I’ve been in town for a while. I hear she’s a doctor?” she asked for confirmation.

The chatter continued until both of them were done with their ice cream.

“I have to go now,” Leo uttered, looking at his watch.

“I understand. Thank you so much, Leo. Talking to you meant a whole lot to me,” Angela said and pecked him on the cheek.

Leo smiled, even though a feeling of guilt washed over him. Was it right to allow Angela to kiss me, even if it’s only on the cheek? Leo quickly pushed the thought out of his mind. He wasn’t doing anything wrong. Angela was just a friend, and he was faithful to Riley.

Leo’s drive home was brief. Talking to Angela made him appreciate his new relationship a lot more, and he wanted to show his girlfriend how much he loved her. As he hopped out of his car and strolled across the lawn, Leo hoped that she would already be home. Better yet, maybe Riley would be inside his house to surprise him. However, when he opened the front door, he was met with disappointment as all the lights were off, and Riley was nowhere in sight.

Leo sighed. Did I see her car in the garage? Instead of going back out to check, he decided to take out his phone and call her.

“Hey,” Leo greeted after four rings.

“Hello, handsome stranger,” Riley replied.

“You know I’m handsome, but am I also a stranger?” he asked, shaking his head.

“Call it a woman’s intuition,” she retorted, giggling.

“Intuition? Tell me where you think I am at the moment then,” Leo challenged.

“Your place? My place?” Riley guessed, knowing it was one of them.

Leo chuckled softly at how right she was. “Where are you?” he asked after a while.

“I just got to Books’ house. You weren’t at home when I returned.”

“So, are you punishing me?” Leo asked, whining.

“No, I’m delaying your treat.” Riley chuckled.

“Sad.”

“I know, I know. I’ll be back soon. Love you.” Riley said.

“Love you too,” Leo said and hung up, shaking his head.

After dropping the call, Leo found himself sitting on his barstool, holding a glass of scotch. As he gulped the alcohol, he thought of Angela’s situation again.

You need details, a voice in his head said.

“Right!” Leo exclaimed out loud. He stood up and grabbed his phone. Drinking a little more scotch for good measure and dialed Angela’s number.

“Hello?”

“Angela, where are you at the moment?” Leo asked.

“I went over to Jackson’s. Why?” she uttered.

“What do you think about us finishing that talk?”

“I don’t mind that. Where do you stay these days anyway?” Angela asked.

“My new place is pretty close to Jackson’s,” Leo said before describing his location.

“I’ll be there in an hour,” Angela responded.
